I love a good DIY or craft! Whether it’s because of the weather, a pandemic, or just a lazy day, there are times when we find ourselves stuck at home with nothing to do. But don’t despair! There are plenty of ways to make the most of your time indoors, and one of the best is to get creative with some DIY projects. DIY projects are a great way to stay busy, learn new skills, and save money. They can also be a lot of fun, and there’s something for everyone. In this roundup post, I am covering 10 DIYs to do when you’re stuck at home! If you’re wanting even more things to do, I posted 15 Things to Do When You’re Stuck at Home the other day, so make sure to check that out!

10 DIYs to Do When You’re Stuck at Home
I tried to gather a variety of DIYs for different tastes, difficulty levels, and time needed to complete. I feel like it takes forever to sift through Pinterest for adult-approved crafty DIYs. Searching in the search bar usually results on “life hack DIYs” or kid-approved crafts. I wanted to create a place where I could group a bunch of really awesome crafts into one place so you don’t have to sift through Pinterest! Hopefully, there is at least something here for all the crafters out there. Anyway, let’s get into it! Here are 10 DIYs to do when you’re stuck at home.
1. DIY Tasseled Throw Pillows via Sugar and Cloth
Throw pillows can get spendy, but they are such an easy thing to make. I love the look of these throw pillows and they can easily be switched up by changing the fabric.
2. DIY Macramé Chandelier via Collective Gen
This is so extra, and I am here for it! This may be a more intermediate/advanced macramé, but there are also lots of fun macramé earrings, keychains, and wall hangings for beginners.
3. Reusable Paper Towels DIY via Paper & Stitch
Why not make unpaper towels? They’re a cleaner and zero-waste option to regular paper towels! This DIY from Paper & Stitch is easy to follow (and don’t they look so cute?). Plus, it will save you money on paper towels and all you have to do is throw them in the wash to clean them.
4. DIY Scrunchies via Martha Stewart
Scrunchies are having their moment right now and I’m basically living my 90’s dreams. These are small enough that you don’t need a sewing machine and they would be a great use of your fabric scraps if you have any. Plus, they are easy to customize and switch up.
5. Sew this Summer Jumpsuit via Merrick
For those of you who do have a sewing machine, here is a super cute jumpsuit. It’s listed as “intermediate,” but if you have experience using a sewing machine then it should be easy enough! Isn’t it such a cute look?
6. Hand Embroidered Denim via Lauren Conrad
Embroidery is on trend now, but also a great hobby to pick up! This hand-embroidered denim look from Lauren Conrad is so cute and doesn’t require many materials. Grab a needle, embroidery thread, and a pair of your old denim jeans that you are wanting to refresh.
7. Reusable Sandwich and Snack Bags via A Beautiful Mess
This is another zero-waste alternative, this time for sandwich bags. These are so cute and really easy to make! Plus, it will save you money in the long run on Ziploc bags.
8. DIY Bead Chandelier via The House That Lars Built
This one costs $5 for the plan, but it looks BEAUTIFUL! It doesn’t require many materials, and it would be a great accent for any room.
9. DIY Bug Repelling Essential Oil Bracelets via Hello Glow
Since the weather is starting to get warmer and the bugs will soon be out, this is the perfect DIY. These are customizable and basically made from scrap. In this DIY, Hello Glow uses air dry clay, but I think polymer clay would work as well. Making these in keychain form would also make a great diffuser to hang on the air vents in your car!
10. Build-Your-Own Greenhouse via A Beautiful Mess
Isn’t this greenhouse gorgeous? For those of you who have LOTS of time on your hands, like to garden, and maybe have reclaimed wooden windows lying around… this AMAZING greenhouse is from A Beautiful Mess. While this may be a project that will take at least a few weeks to finish, the end result is worth it. The hardest part of this DIY would be sourcing the materials so if you have a stash of reclaimed wood lying around you’re already one step ahead!
*BONUS*
As a bonus, here is a DIY for polymer clay earrings. They are so easy to make, cost under $10 in supplies, and can be made in under an hour without any tools. Check out the DIY here!

Wow, some of these are very cool! I love that there is so much time to make homemade things now!
Wow, so many great ideas! Such good ways to pass time.
I am bookmarking this post! So many beautiful ideas! I had no idea I could make all of these things at home, how fun! Thank you for sharing these ideas, I’m going to be the ultimate crafter after all of this.
These ideas are so great and could really make the time fly by!!

cute & little
Both of those chandeliers are gorgeous! Looks like I found my newest project. 😀
Wish i was a little more crafty with thread & needle, but I love the DIY paper towels. I could totally swing those! The greenhouse, however….!
I like the idea of unpaper towels! I’ve definitely been doing more DIY now. I made some wine cork art the other day with all the corks I’ve had lying around.
Fantastic ideas. Not only will these projects keep you busy while you are affected by shelter-in-place, but you will have lots of useful items for during and after. I would love to be able to build my own greenhouse, it would make gardening much easier and significantly extend my short gardening season – but that’s a project that would require a bit more planning and no more snow on the ground. I think I would love to try macrame, as it doesn’t look overly complicated and doesn’t require a ton of materials.
I love the Chandeliers, the Seashell Heart, and the Resin for Beginners.
Lots of lovely projects for the cold Winter days.
I found your post very complete, the images you used were very elegant. the macrame chandelier was my favorite. Thank you very much.
